Valentine's Day - Pop Up "I Love You" Hat
Valentine's Day - Pop Up "I Love You" Hat - Saturday, February 2nd, 2:00- 4:00 pm, Cost $30.00
Teacher: Cathy Briscoe
Years ago I read an article about women, who during wartime, would use their knitting to send coded messages regarding enemy troop and equipment movements. Ever since reading the article, I have toyed with idea of incorporating code into my knitting. With Valentines day approaching I thought why not knit a hat that literally says “I Love You”.
I’ve created this special pop up class to share my pattern for the first time and to teach you how to use the code charts I developed to incorporate your own special message in a hat for your Valentine's Day sweetheart.
The hat is designed to be knit in worsted weight yarn in either one color using knits and purls for a textured pattern or 2 colors to create a color-stranded hat.
Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn - 1 skein or 2 skeins contrasting colors(for colored stranded)
Needle size: 7, 8 or 9, 16 - 20” circular needle.
A small size hat will be worked at a gauge of 5 stitches per inch (US 7), medium at 4.5 spi(US 8) and large at 4 spi (US 9).
You will need a corresponding set of DPN’s to work the decreases at the top of the hat (unless you use magic loop or 2 circulars when knitting in the round).
A selection of colorful stitch markers.
Paper & pencil. Graph paper will make it easier if you plan to create your own message.
To keep class time productive before class, please have your yarn wound and work a gauge swatch to determine the required needle size you need to use.
